About Velma/Johnny Jones
Based in Montreal
Velma and Johnny Jones were born from a love of theatre, character work, and transformation. Drawing inspiration from artists who can shape shift into anything they imagine, and the ability to capture the attention of every audience member in a room.
Inspired by their fellow queer trail blazers like Lady Gaga, Sasha Velour, and Alaska, Velma/Johnny has been doing drag since 2016 and has never been afraid to step into the spotlight as their unapologetic authentic self.
Breaking down the mould of what drag can be, Velma/Johnny has been making many firsts in the TV world of drag. They are the first cis woman drag artist on Canada’s Drag Race (4th across all franchises), and has the honour of being the first Drag King to compete in any Drag Race franchise, representing for the typically overlooked king community.
Velma is the glamour, the rebellion, and the heightened femininity, while Johnny is the cinematic side — a suave, charming troublemaker that can make audiences swoon with just a wink. Both personas come from the same spark: a desire to tell stories and expand what drag can be.
